These are ground zero winning industrial design concepts created to win the right to become the sole industrial designer for the Cruise self-driving vehicle system project, shown by permission from Cruise.  Shiozaki Design won the challenge and continued creating other concepts, which are still confidential and can not be shown now.
Goals of ID Assignment - Part 1
Develop broad ID concepts that would be springboards for other ID ideas and insight.
Integrate the mounting hardware so their form and lines complement the Nissan Leaf aesthetics, such as using curved shapes and lines vs. flat shapes or straight lines.
Create an industrial design that is unique and enhances the Cruise brand.
To minimize the visual undulations caused by the sensor's different shapes, sizes, and locations as contrasted against the smooth, curvy, flowing form and profile of the Nissan Leaf by hiding or positioning the sensors in a way to lower or eliminate this visual clutter and disorder.
Part 2
Once Shiozaki Design was awarded the ID project, several more ID concepts were developed with the Cruise Team in-house in SolidWorks.  There were several challenges, such as sensor placement changes and changing number of antennas required for the GPS.
