The 300 System is an innovative combination of software, integrated computers, and hardware that gives the user a 3D interactive experience. Shiozaki Design worked closely with the zSpace team and the contract manufacturer to create the 300 System, Eye Wear, and Stylus industrial design, specifying CMF.
Responsibilities: Industrial Design and User Research.
300 System
The 300 System would be portable. A collapsible stand was designed in the back of the housing to be pulled out so the 300 System could be stood up. The integrated stand had several adjustable positions to maximize viewing angles for the users. The bottom stand below the display doubled as a carrying handle to transport the 300 System.
The Ink Well was designed to provide a positive experience when retrieving or storing the Stylus. The goal was to provide a Stylus holder which will let the used insert and extract the Stylus as quickly and smoothly as possible.  It also lets them pre-position the Stylus in the position they desire.
One of the main challenges was to design a Stylus that would be comfortable to use for both right and left-handed users.  The other challenge was to accommodate the different positions these users could hold the Stylus as the Stylus is held in the air and not placed on a surface like a traditional stylus.  Another significant challenge is some users will use their index fingers to activate the buttons.  Verse others that would position the Stylus in their hands so they can use their thumbs to activate the controls.
